Outlook for week ending 28Sep07:
Last week was eventful and markets climbed to all time highs against everybody’s expectations. This up move will definitely not sustain. The reasons for that are
1. The markets have moved up without much participation from mid cap and small cap stocks.
2. It was only the Relaince group stocks which took the indices higher.
3. The Nifty futures has created a huge gap of 83 points at 4557 which has to be filled up shortly. The same is the case with Bank Nifty which has created a gap of 128 points at 7097.

Right now there is no trigger for the markets to come down. This Thursday is F&O expiry as well. I expect the markets to remain sideways or probably inch up slowly till the result season starts in the third week of October. Use the opportunity to exit long positions.

Outlook for week ending 21Sep07:
It is extremely difficult to predict the direction of the markets in this week with the fed coming up with the decision on the rate cut. All the analysts are of the opinion that the fed will definitely cut the rate when it meets on the 18th of September. Last week the markets across the world have firmed up on this expectation. However, the Indian markets gave up substantial gains in the second half of Friday making the technical charts look weak. Most of the stocks have shown signs of reversal. The banking stocks appear to be weakening. It is advisable to remain in cash for at least 60% of your portfolio. The political situation is also not improving with new issues coming up.

The problem with the Northern Rock in UK is another example of sub prime concern. Remember that if the fed decides to cut the rate, it is the acceptance from them that there is a huge problem in the sub prime market. On an immediate reaction the markets might bounce back but will gradually drift down. If the fed decides not to cut the rate then, it is against everybody’s expectations and the markets might fall. However the Indian markets are not much affected by the sub prime problem and I do not foresee Nifty coming down below 4365 on a worst case scenario. For this week the Nifty should face resistance at 4530-4615-4650 and should take support at 4425-4365-4260.

Outlook for week ending 14Sep07:
This week the markets are going to open week and are expected to recover all its losses and probably will be in the positive territory by the end of the week. It is no rocket science to tell that the markets will open with a gap down on Monday morning. He question is what after that. I expect the markets to recover either on Monday itself or from the second half of Tuesday. I do not expect the Nifty to come down below 4365 in the initial panic and not below 4420 later on. The first resistance on the upper side is at 4570. If nifty sustains above 4600 then expect a new high within this settlement. I have given below a few reasons as to why the markets will not fall to a new low or enter the bear phase. For this week the Nifty should face resistance at 4550-4600-4650 and should take support at 4440-4363-4300.

The reasons for the markets not to enter the bear phase is:

The Indian market are bullish and can make a new high any time. Let me justify myself.
1. As far as the political situation goes, the left just cannot afford to pull out of the coalition because, if the mid term polls happen there is a good possibility that congress might win it with majority.
2. Regarding the sub prime concern, Bush and Bernayke will not let their biggest economy crumble so easily. They will definitely take steps curtail shortfalls. In any case, India is least effected by the sub prime crisis. If the FIIs pull out money the domestic money is sufficient to hold up our markets.
3. Technically, the Indian markets failed to close below its 200 DMA in the recent fall which is a long term bullish sign.
4. The 15 DMA has cut 30 DMA from bottom which is short term bullish sign.
5. The strengthening rupee has helped Indian companies shop abroad and the finance ministry's encouragement to do so is welcome.
6. The sectors most affected by strengthened rupee are export and IT. IT can anyhow survive by increasing the billing rates. The big exporters can survive by smartly booking forward contracts and the small exporters will get assistance from the government to compensate for their exchange loss (to some extent if not fully).

All these points make me believe that the markets are strong and all falls or lowers levels should be used to buy stocks with a long term view. However, In the immediate short term I expect correction till 4350 and not below that. Use this opportunity to cover short positions and build long term long positions. Divis Lab and Praj Industries are looking very bullish for the targets mentioned below.

Outlook for week ending 07Sep07:
This week is expected to be volatile and Nifty can easily move around 400 points. Technically, the markets are on a bounce back and we have to wait and see if the higher levels can be sustained. Nifty has a strong resistance at 4595 and 4645. It has a strong support at 4165. Sector wise Banking, IT and steel are looking good. Automobile stocks are looking for a bounce back. It is advisable to exit long positions at higher levels. This entire month is expected to be volatile. No clear trend is available till Nifty closes above 4645 or below 4165 on the weekly charts. The US markets are closed on Monday and Fed chairman ben Bernayake’s statement of ‘will act as needed’ is not helping the cause as it still leave the investors guessing about the cut in interest rate. Internally, it is also required to watch for the political scene as to how it will shape up. Nifty will face resistance at 4532-4595-4645 and will take support at 4363-4245-4165 on a weekly basis.

The fall I was expecting in yesterday’s trading did not come, but it is definitely there today. The markets will open extremely weak and can recover as the day progresses. Nifty futures can come down up to 4200 in the opening session. The August futures settlement is just 2 days away and this will take the markets up from the lows of the day today. Technically the gap created by Nifty futures has been reduced to insignificant levels. For today, the Nifty should take support at 4300-4240-4218 and should find resistance at 4363-4398-4440.

As markets opened with a gap up and did not sustain those higher levels. There is a good possibility that the reverse might happen today. The markets can open with a gap down and can recover as the day progresses due to short covering. The political uncertainty is causing the down fall and the markets are not taking the cues from the global markets. The global markets have recovered substantially in this week whereas our market has not. The bank stocks are looking weak and if the market opens weak tomorrow it should be led by the bank stocks. If the markets open in the negative it is advisable to cover your short positions and go long till the end of the settlement as the short covering might not allow the markets to fall further. The spot Nifty levels for today are, support at 4075-4040-4000 and resistance at 4140-4180-4220.

This fall was totally unexpected as the Asian markets were up more than a percent and US markets were up too. May be the political uncertainty is weighing heavy on the markets. Now technically, a close below 4072 on the daily charts and close below 4000 on the weekly charts can bring the nifty down to 3790 within this settlement or may be within this week itself. Technology and metal stocks are looking weak. For today, the Nifty should find support at 4070-4044-3985 and should face resistance at 4107-4135-4175.

The markets might open on the positive side but it may not sustain the gains and give away all the gains in the later half of the day. There is a good possibility that we may close in the negative. It is advisable to remain cautious and create short positions at the higher levels. As expected yesterday, the fertilizer stocks zoomed. On Friday, the markets were very volatile and traded with high volumes. Even though markets are looking very weak, there might be a bounce back on Monday. The bounce back on Friday was on account of short covering. Technically, Nifty managed to close above the 200 day moving average and now should bounce sufficiently to cover the gap created at 4300. The global markets are also supportive as the US markets with good gains on Friday. The Asian markets are also expected to trade in positive on Monday. Again, 4300 levels should be safe enough to go short. The political uncertainty is weighing heavy on the markets. Sector wise, fertilizer stocks are looking hot whereas oil marketing stocks are looking very weak. For today, the Nifty should face resistance at 4190-4245-4300 and should take support at 4040-4025-3985.

There is a lot of debate about markets going up or down on Monday. Technically there was a significant gap created on Friday when the markets opened down. This gap has to be filled up. There are two possibilities. If the markets open in the green and touches the level of 4400 then it may start going down from then on. If the markets open in the down side then it can recover in the later half and remain strong for a couple of days. In any case 4400 is the maximum I see it going up for the time being. The weakness is very much evident and I see it going down till 4050 within this settlement. IT stocks can hold up where as the banking stocks can correct significantly. For Monday, the Nifty should face resistance at 4363-4400-4435 and should take support at 4308-4275-4240.

As expected the markets lost most of its gains in the afternoon session and closed deep in red. This is the first sign of reversal on the down side. The confirmation is if the markets close below the low of yesterday. I see a significant downside if this happens. There is a good possibility of this happening as the global markets are weak and we will open deep in the red tomorrow. Technically the next big support for Nifty is 4250 and below that 4050 is possible. If you observe the figures above, the FIIs were net buyers yesterday, but do not go by that as the FIIs are consistently booking losses and it will happen this time also. The markets are in total control of domestic institutional investors(DIIs). The global economic situation is bad and the future is bleak. The bank stocks have shown signs of tiredness and can correct substaintially. For today, the Nifty should take support at 4360-4300-4270 and should find resistance at 4420-4450-4530.

Outlook for 16Jul07:
On Friday, the markets stood steady and held on to its gains throughout the day. The point to note here is the advance decline ratio. In spite of the indices gaining over a percent the number of advancing stocks are below the number of declining stocks. Most of the stocks lost its intraday gains to close with small gains or to close in negative. The FII figure in derivatives also suggests that a correction is round the corner. If the markets open in the positive tday, it is safe to go short in Nifty futures for a day or two. For today, the Nifty should face resistance at 4531-4555 and should take support at 4452-4434-4411.

Outlook for 12Jul07:
Yesterday, the markets, as expected opened in the positive and remained there throughout the day. The Nifty futures discount built up during the day vanished at the end and closed with a discount of just 2 points. The global markets are extremely strong and the US gained almost 3% and the Asian markets are trading with 1.5% gain today. Other emerging markets are also traded strongly yesterday. My Nifty target of 4460-4500 is fast approaching and can be hit today. There is no doubt that the markets will open with a huge gap up but, I doubt its ability to hold the higher levels and can correct in the later half of the day. The analysts are predicting the sensex level of 15600 and it is better to wait and watch if that level hits instead of buy and watch. The overall sentiment is turning bullish which is dangerous. One drop from the top can trap a lot of traders. For today, the Nifty should face resistance at 4485-4500-4525 and should take support 4412-4385-4365.

Yesterday in spite of Infosys lowering their guidance the markets held fort and did not crack up to expectations. Even though IT stocks lost a few percents, there is all possibility that these stocks will bounce back from lower levels. Now, Infosys has a good support at 1910 level and will find it tough to break that level. The Nifty futures trimmed its discount to the spot price to close with only 2 points discount. The court decision on Relaince Industires is also expected today. The global markets are strong and this should help our market open in the positive. Short covering might take the indices even higher. Today is expected to be a good day, but caution is advised at all higher levels. The Nifty should find resistance at 4411-4430-4460 and should find support at 4363-4344-4325.

The global markets are weak and are coinciding with the Infy results. There is possibility that markets might take a U turn today. If it opens weak then can recover from lower levels to end higher or if opens higher can reverse to end lower. Technically the charts of Infosys are looking good and the price is headed towards 2080. For today, the Nifty should take support at 4393-4385-4360-4328 and should face resistance at 4411-4422-4440-4460.

Even though the markets gained 0.75% on Friday, it was very much evident that the participation came mostly from large cap stocks and especially from technology stocks. There was no participation from mid cap stocks as the mid cap index closed just 0.23% gain. I would like to reiterate that it is time to remain cautious and avoid long positions or have strict stop losses on your long positions. The gains by technology stocks are mainly due to short covering and cautious approach ahead of the Infosys numbers on Wednesday. The global markets are strong for the time being and can temporarily take our markets higher. For Monday, the Nifty should face resistance at 4411-4426-4472 and should take support at 4360-4330-4310.

The markets held on to its gains throughout the day yesterday displaying good strength. The rally was lead by Bank and Telecom stocks. The global cues were positive yesterday. The US markets closed marginally in positive yesterday and are closed today on account of Independence day. The Asian markets are trading in positive territory. We can expect a positive opening today, but the indices can drift down during the day to either close flat or in negative. The FIIs are buying hugely in index futures and index options especially 4300 puts and are consistently selling in stock futures. This is an indication that the up move is short lived. As I had indicated last month itself, sensex level of 14750 is the level to cover long positions and 14900-15000 is the levels to go short. For today, the Nifty should face resistance at 4377-4390-4400 and should take support at 4330-4312-4292.

The Nifty close on Friday was the all time high on a closing basis. Technically, there is some more steam left in the markets before we could take a cautious approach ahead of the results season. There is a good possibility that the Nifty can hit 4360 and 4400 in this week. Sensex can go up to 14900-15000 levels. The US markets on Friday were trading in the positive before closing in the negative on the fears of attack on the Glaskow airport. The FTSE closed at its highest point of the day. Technically there is no indications in the Asian markets for a break down. There has been a resurgence in the sugar sector. Banking stocks have more steam left and in technology, Infosys and TCS can bounce back if Infy confirms the news on Capgemini and TCS confirm Capex. For Monday, the Nifty can find resistance at 4325-4352-4363 and should take support at 4306-4280-4257. There is a possibility of gap down opening due to the terror attack in Europe.

Yesterday, the June F&O series expired and we are starting July series from today onwards. The roll over was better then last month’s roll over. The Nifty July future is trading at a discount of 30 points which is high. Coming to the global markets, the US closed flat after the federal reserve decided not to change the interest rate. This was anticipated by many of the analyists, hence no reaction to the news. The Asian markets today morning is showing mixed trend. This means that we do not have any global cues to follow today morning. We have to trade on our own and traditionally the first day of any F&O series has been good for bulls. Technically the spot Nifty is close to its all time closing high and break and close can take to higher levels. For today, the Nifty should face resistance at 4298-4306-4325 and should take support at 4270-4256-4243.

Yesterday, again the markets did what it used to do the last week. It moved against the day’s trend in the last few minutes of trade to close almost at the day’s highs. Technically, markets will give a good up move only if it closes above 4270. Yesterday the FIIs have sold more than 750 crores of index futures. The global markets are not supportive today. The US markets after opening and trading at higher levels gave up all the gains in the last session to close in negative ahead of new house data expected today. The Asian markets have a mixed trend. Our markets might open sluggishly, but looks like it will gain momentum as the day progresses and close above 4270. For today, the Nifty should take support at 4236-4222-4185 and should face resistance at 4280-4302-4328.

On Friday, the Nifty closed at 4252 missing my expected close of 4255 by 3 points. Similarly, on Thursday also the Nifty closed at 4267 missing my expected level of 4270. This is not giving me a comfortable feeling. On Friday, the US and the European markets lost close to a percent. The local news is also not so good with SEBI banning Karvy stock broking for the period of 3 months. If the Asian markets trade in the negative on Monday, then there is a good possibility of panic selling in the morning. Please do not give away and sell positions. The markets are weak only if Nifty closes below 4130. Sector wise, banking is interestingly poised. If Bank nifty future closes above 6575 there can be a blast till 6900. For today, the Nifty should take support at 4218-4205-4182 and should face resistance at 4270-4298-4325.

Outlook for 22Jun07:
The markets are interestingly poised and appears to make a bullish break out very soon. If the spot nifty manages to close above 4255 today then expect new highs in the coming week. Among all, the bank Nifty is looking very interesting. If manages to close above 6575 then expect 6900 very shortly. There has been good buying in the 4300 calls which suggests that the call writers were covering their shorts on fears of market breaching 4300 levels. The US markets managed to close in the positive whereas the Asian markets are not supportive and are trading in the red. There is good possibility that we may open in the red but the point to watch is the close. If nifty recovers to close above 4290 then there is nothing stopping it to hit the new highs. For today, the Nifty should take support at 4245-4220-4200 and should face resistance at 4291-4307-4325.

Outlook for 20Jun07:
Yesterday our markets bucked the global trend to close with gains. I cannot think of any other reason other than short covering for this move. The trimming of Nifty futures discount from 20 points to 1 point proves this point. The advance decline ratio shows that the gains were largely confined to the large cap stocks. It was the beaten down stocks like the reliance Industries, ONGC and the banks which helped in taking indices higher. The cement sector is looking for a bounce and can do well in this week. The US markets closed marginally in the green yesterday and the Asian markets are also trading in green at this time. It appears that we will continue from where we left yesterday and should open in the positive. Technically, closing of spot Nifty and Nifty futures above 4200 is a good sign. For today, the Nifty should take support at 4245-4270-4295 and should face resistance at 4196-4170-4140.

The markets last week managed to consistently over the 4140 mark showing some strength. I expect this strength to carry on in this week too and go to much higher levels. Weakness only if it closes below 4110 levels. Banking, Technology and infrastructure stocks are expected to gain in this week. Autos and cement should bounce back as well. The global markets are also supportive with FTSE hitting a 52 week high on Friday. There are rumors on the streets that the sensex will lose 1000 points on Monday because of a CBDT circular. I would advise not to bother too much about this and in case this happens use the fall to enter long positions. For Monday, the Nifty should face resistance at 4188-4220-4240 and should take support at 4161-4145-4126.

The markets made good gains yesterday and might continue to do so today in the first half as well. The global markets are strong and have gains of more then 0.5% in all the major markets. The FIIs have covered almost 500 crores out of 5000 crores short positions built in index futures. Technically the markets held out the important level of 4140 for three days then broke down to take support at 4110 which was the 50 days moving average and bounced back. This is a good sign and can assume that there will not be much down side left. At the same time, if the spot Nifty closes below 4110 it can come down till 3900. For today, the Nifty should face resistance at 4188-4198-4217 and should take support at 4150-41404127.

In case the markets open in positive or if goes to positive territory during the course of the day, it is a good opportunity to sell. The ten year bond yields in the US are at its 5 year high. The Asain markets have followed them and opened in negative today. The cement sector is looking for a bounce back. For today, the Nifty should face resistance at 4170-4200-4220 and should take support at 4130-4111-4090.

On Friday, the markets lost all its gains from the lows of the day in the last 30 minutes showing further weakness in the markets, but the Nifty managed to close above the support level of 4140. This will help the markets bounce back today. The triple digit gain by Dow Jones and the gains in the other global markets will help our markets to open in the positive today. Long term investors are still advised to stay out as the bounce may not sustain for long. As expressed in earlier posts, the trading range for the Nifty is 4140-4270 on a closing basis and think to go long in this market if closes above 4270 only. Day traders can play for the bounce today. Tech stocks are looking for the bounce back as the rupee rallies past 41.00 against the dollar in intraday. For today, the Nifty should find resistance at 4165-4196-4228 and should take support at 4115-4075-4040.

Needless to say, the markets will open in the negative today. The global markets are weak and most of them are down more than 1.5%. Yesterday, even though markets behaved in the manner which suggested a bounce back the FII’s were selling and have sold more in index futures than the day before. It did take support at 4140 and bounced back but it will definitely test those levels again today. On an intraday basis the Nifty will definitely trade below this level but the point to watch is whether it can close above that level. I expect some short covering in the later session and the markets can bounce back from the lows. If the spot Nifty closes below 4140 then expect another 100 points correction from those levels. Bank, auto and steel stocks are looking weak. For today, the Nifty should take support at 4148-4130-4104 and should find resistance at 4184-4224-4256.

Yesterday the markets showed first signs of weakness by falling 100 points from the highs. As advised a few days back the SPOT NIFTY level of 4140 is the level to watch out for. If the Nifty CLOSES below 4140 today then there is at least another 100 points downside from there on else, the markets might bounce back from these levels. Watch out for this level before taking a directional call on the markets. The Nifty heavy weights like Reliance Industries and ONGC is trading below their support levels and SBI is right on the support line and on the verge of break down. The ECB has increased the interest rate by 25 basis points to 4% and the fear of similar rate hike by fed is pulling the US markets down. For today, the Nifty should take support at 4161-4138-4118 and should face resistance at 4220-4255-4298.

The global cues are very weak. Yesterday’s FII figures are also not encouraging. They have sold close to 1000 crores in index futures. I expect good amount of correction in Reliance Industries today. Remember, it was advised to exercise caution and exit long when Nifty was trading at 4280 only. For today, the Nifty should take support at 4173-4157-4140 and should face resistance at 4222-4250.

As expected the markets gained momentum in the afternoon session yesterday. Banking and infrastructure stocks are looking extremely bullish. I would still advise to be cautious at these. Nifty level of 4200 was the level I was looking for. If it stretches further it can go up till 4250 and if there is still some steam left after that it can go up till 4315. I think 4250 are the levels to cover long positions and go short in Nifty futures. FII figures are still not very convincing to suggest more up side in this market. For today, the Nifty should face resistance at 4202-4218-4238 and should take support at 4152-4137-4103.

Sector wise Banking and Oil marketing companies are looking strong, automobile stocks are looking for a bounce back and the technology sector is looking weak. Watch out for SBI and ICICI Bank today. The global markets have mixed trend and no cues available from them. The nifty should find resistance at 4147-4164-4180 and should find support at 4107-4087-4070.

On Friday even if the markets recovered from the panic selling situation in the morning the FIIs were net sellers in the end. There is no strength in this pull back. The global markets are strong and will help our market go up but, till when, is the question. It is always advisable to go short at the higher levels. Yesterday is was interesting to see that the markets crashed in the second half. Today also the markets will open in the negative, but I have a strong feeling that it will bounce back in the second half. Nifty level of 4028 is very crucial. If it manages to close below this level for 2 consecutive days then expect 3900 in the nifty charts in the short term. If it holds then expect some buying in the coming week. Most of the Nifty stocks are showing bearish divergence at the bottom. If those stocks hold up to close in positive today then expect buying in the next week.
For today, Nifty should take support at 4046-4028-4007 and should face resistance at 4076-4107-4141.

As expected, yesterday the indices opened in the negative and climbed up to close in positive. Even though the pull back seemed significant, look at the FII figures and advance decline ratio. The undertone in the market is still weak. If there is a pull back today or on Friday, use it to exit long positions and if the markets over stretches take it as an opportunity to short sell. The pull back rally can be on account of short covering. The Nifty futures premium of 13 points is not at all comforting. The fed meet yesterday left the rates unchanged as expected and are not expected to touch it till the end of the year. Even though I have a few buy calls, buy them only if you have a lion’s heart else, stay out. For today, the nifty is expected to open in the positive. I am curious to check the close. Bank stocks might lead the rally and the tech stocks are expected to pull it down. Nifty should face resistance at 4105-4136-4163 and should take support at 4052-4037-4017.

For today, the indices might open in the negative and crawl back to close in the positive. There is a big up move waiting to happen either on Thursday or Friday. The Nifty should take support at 4056-4043-4017 and should find resistance at 4100-4118-4148.

Yesterday the markets just zoomed up after the announcement of the credit policy. There is no rational behind the markets inching towards the new high in spite of the tightening of the credit policies, higher inflation and strengthening rupee compared to the economic situation during the previous high. It can only be advised to remain cautious at higher levels as the correction can be severe this time. The gap created by Nifty futures at 3900 is still uncovered. The rumour in the market is that the Nifty will touch the previous high of 4245. I would advise not to remain long in Nifty after 4200 itself. The advance decline ratio is not very encouraging on the day when the indices run up 1.50 percent. For today, the Nifty should face resistance at 4168-4195-4220 and should take support at 4130-4104-4065.

It was very much evident from the yesterday’s market movement that it wanted to wait for the credit policy before deciding the trend. There are no global cues also this morning as the US closed negligibly in the red and the Asian markets also has a mixed trend. In my opinion, the possibility of rate hike is remote. The rollover of future positions continues as the April contracts expire on the 26th. For today the Nifty should take support at 4068-4046-4016 and should find resistance at 4108-4137-4168.

The FII buy figures in index futures for the past two days are very encouraging. For today, the Nifty should take support at 3965-3942-3907 and should find resistance at 4013-4044-4066.

The strength in the global markets combined with the good performance of Infosys and expectations from TCS have taken the Indian markets higher. Now it is time to be cautious again. Nifty may correct a bit after hitting 4065. The open interest in Nifty futures and the call options are coming down. This is a cause for concern in the immediate short term. The private sector bank stocks are looking good. HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and UTI Bank can do well today. For Today, the Nifty should find resistance at 4034-4047-4065 and should find support at 3954-3914-3884.

Unlike expectations, the markets are steadily marching ahead with the help of global markets. The Chinese market continues to make new highs. Metal stocks are looking good, particularly steel. Tata steel and Sail had good gains in the previous week. The Infosys guidance was not disappointing which helped the other tech stocks to do well. As the results season unfolds the markets seem to gain further in the very short term. The medium term outlook still looks negative. After Cement it is the turn of the construction stocks to bounce back. For today, the Nifty should find some resistance at 3936-3957-3996 and should take support at 3893-3861-3834.

There is no major reason for the markets to go up this way. Yesterday’s move was totally unexpected. Most of the global majors were closed on Friday and a few on Monday too. The markets have gone up without any support from the international markets. The gainers were steel, cement and banks which were hammered earlier. One can say that yesterday’s move was backed by short covering rather than guanine buying. On the contrary, have a look at the FII figures. They were net sellers of 497 crores on Thursday and net buyers of 429 crores on Monday. Are they booking losses at these levels is the question. In any case it is advisable to stay out and not take huge positions in this market. Invest less then 50% of your capital only. Wait for the Infosys guidance later this week. For today the Nifty should face resistance at 3893-3910-3960 and should take support at 3832-3796-3772.
